Does the United States have a compelling future?

I ask this because it occurred to me recently — and like it or not — that Trump was able to articulate a clear vision with his “Make America Great Again” slogan. You gotta admit, the MAGA tagline stuck and still resonates with the millions of people who voted for him.

Despite ruining our country and tapping into the worst side of ourselves, he still managed to rally his supporters to believe in the future he painted for them. Was it a big fat lie? Yes. Does he care about the out-of-work blue collar worker in Kentucky? No. But his message resonates with a lot of Americans because it’s easy to understand. I mean, don’t we all want to make America great again?

We need to stop wringing our hands and get to work on really building a compelling future for all Americans. Yes, we need to investigate and convict those who were responsible for the Jan. 6 attack on our democracy, including our 45th president. Yes, we need to continue calling out politicians who are spewing lies and doing nothing to help move this country forward. And, yes, at the same time, Biden needs to continue speaking to the American people about what will bring us together: massive public works projects, reimagining education, digital literacy, and getting COVID-19 under control.

We have many issues to address that will take much longer than four years to solve, but if we can all rally around something, we can start to heal as a nation. Biden’s Build Back Better plan to tackle our aging infrastructure is a start, but it will take a lot more than that for us to recover from the reckless behavior of the last administration. We will need massive action and the new administration to over deliver on its promises every single time.

There is a way out.

We will get through this together.
