In 1992, when Republican George Bush lost the election against Bill Clinton, he said: “Here’s the way we see it and the country should see it — that the people have spoken and we respect the majesty of the democratic system.”
In 2008, John McCain told his supporters to stop booing the incumbent new President Barack Obama, saying: “This is an historic election and I recognize the special significance it has for African-Americans and for the special pride that must be theirs tonight.”
These men respected the Constitution. They recognized the right of the American people to choose — they did not prioritize their dented egos.
Four years ago, Hilary Clinton conceded to her opponent with grace and dignity, saying: “Donald Trump is going to be our president. We owe him an open mind and the chance to lead.”
And then there is President Trump, the “notoriously sore loser” who cannot accept defeat and is instead acting like a ” victim of nefarious forces.”
