Trump’s top Medicare official filed a $47,000 claim for lost property after her bags were stolen from her rented SUV in San Francisco. Seema Verma, the head of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid was in town to give a speech. She claimed two dozen pieces of jewelry-including an Ivanka Trump-branded pendant worth $5,900!
But it wasn’t just jewelry: Verma also filed claims for $2,000 worth of clothing, and other items, including a moisturizer worth $375.
According to Politico, a spokesperson for the Department of Health and Human Services said that the department typically pays for some lost or stolen property but the department does not cover lost jewelry, only items that “are not inherently for other uses.
Department staff said they had never heard of an employee filing such a large claim before. Of the $47,000 she filed, Verma was partially reimbursed $2,852.40 for her claim.
Verma is already under fire for her spending of taxpayer money. She hired an outside public relations firm for more than $2 million of taxpayer money to burnish her personal brand. That contract has been put on hold while congressional Democrats investigate the allegations first reported by Politico.
